- Terminator power is a +5V signal that feeds the terminators. You want at
- least one device to always be supplying it to the SCSI bus, or the
- terminators can't work properly. Normally, this is the controller.
- However, other devices can also supply it, and having several supply it
- will work, but a short can cause far more damage with several devices
- supplying power.
-
- Many hard drives have jumpers that specify where the drive gets
- terminator power (either from its own power supply or from the SCSI bus)
- and whether or not the drive itself should supply terminator power to the
- SCSI bus.
-
- Many controllers with both internal and external SCSI connectors have
- jumpers to disable terminator power to the external connector (usually
- they will always supply it to the internal connector).
-
- And then there's fuses. Given the right circumstances, the small fuse
- that is in line with most termpower supplies will blow to prevent
- damage. Even with all jumpers and switches set correctly, you still
- won't have proper termination power, and because of that, improper
- termination.
-
- The only way to be really sure is to check the termination power line on
- the SCSI cable for a +5V signal with a meter. NOTE: be *very* careful
- not to short the probe between the termpower pin and one of those next to
- it, or you could blow a fuse and make things worse. All other normal
- warnings apply, too...
-
- Termination power is pin 26 of the 50-pin internal header, pin 25 of a
- DB25 external connector (as used on the A3000 and many Amiga SCSI boards),
- and pin 38 of a Centronics 50-pin external connector.
